While the Sakurao Distillery has only been in operation for less than a year, it is quickly being hailed for producing some of the world’s most innovative gin. The premiere of Sakurao gin has earned a number of highly esteemed awards including Gold at the Los Angeles International Spirits Competition and Gold at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.
Combining Tradition & Innovation
Since its inception, the Sakurao distillery has focused heavily on Hiroshima, attempting to exclusively use botanicals from the area in some of its spirits. Throughout the distillery the entire team is passionate about their craft, from the president to the distiller, everyone is excited to imbue the spirit of Hiroshima into everything they do.
Now, the team have set their sights on the most visited destination in Hiroshima, the famed Itsukushima Island, better known as Miyajima. The island is home to the Itsukushima Shrine and its iconic torii gate, one of Japan’s UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The Taste Of Japanese Botanicals
Sakurao has released this limited edition to allow the world to experience the distinctive flavor of Japanese botanicals. All of the raw materials used in production have originated from the Hiroshima prefecture, yielding a taste that cannot be compared to any other gin.
The new release is named Hamagou, after the small purple coastal flower used in the botanical recipe, which grows on the shores of Miyajima. The preservation of the island’s wildlife is upheld by many laws, and the distillery aims to help promote and maintain Miyajima’s image with this new release.
