A few weeks back I broke the news that Suntory will be discontinuing the Hibiki 17 in Japan, from September 2018, with other markets to follow. The news went viral around the world, as fans dealt with the sad news. Somewhere Bill Murray must have experienced a shiver, as people re-watched his iconic portrayal in the 2003 hit movie, Lost In Translation, in which he sips on the famed expression.
In 2015, the Hibiki 12-Year-Old was discontinued as well, once an affordable stable for many Japanese whisky fans.
The Hibiki 30-Year-Old is so rare that is doesn’t even featured on Suntory’s website anymore, and while the multipled award-winning Hibiki 21 is still in production, we all expect that to be axed soon, too.
It’s been a tough time for fans on the world-renowned Japanese blended range, but worry not-there’s hope on the horizon. Stay tuned for our piece on new Hibiki bottlings tomorrow.
